Most Mississauga homeowners have no idea these programs exist. The ones who do usually know about only one of them. Here's the full picture: three separate rebate programs, from two different governments, that stack on the same home — up to $12,000 combined.
Program 1: City of Mississauga — Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate (up to $7,500)
This is the big one. The City reimburses you for installing flood-protection equipment, with per-item maximums:

The fine print that matters:
- Eligible costs include contractor labour, materials and HST — the rebate applies to your real invoice total.
- Pre-approval is mandatory. Since February 2025, every measure must be approved by the City before installation. Install first, and you get nothing.
- You must finish the work and request final approval within 6 months of pre-approval.
- Eligible homes: detached, semi-detached, duplex or townhouse, owned by a registered individual (not a corporation), with no outstanding City taxes or fees.
- One sump pump rebate per home every 10 years.
Program 2: City of Mississauga — Flood Resilience Rebate (up to $3,000)
This program covers 50% of eligible costs up to $3,000 for making your basement resilient: water-resistant flooring and walls, raised electrical, moisture alarms, exterior grading, foundation damp-proofing, and steel window wells and covers.
The catch: you need proof your home flooded during an intense rainfall event on or after July 8, 2013 — an insurance claim, correspondence with the City or your Councillor, cleanup invoices, or date-stamped photos all count. Funding is limited and the City can suspend the program at any time.
Program 3: Region of Peel — Sanitary Backwater Valve Rebate (up to $1,500)
A different government (the Region, not the City) rebates 60% of your invoice up to $1,500 for a backwater valve on your sanitary sewer line — the pipe that carries sewage. The City's program covers the storm lateral; these are different pipes, so the two rebates don't overlap and both can be claimed.
A municipal building permit is required before installation, with a post-install inspection. One rebate per home every 10 years. Cheques typically arrive 4–6 weeks after approval.
How they stack
The City itself confirms its two programs together provide "up to a total of $10,500" per eligible homeowner. Add Peel's $1,500 — separate funder, separate pipe — and the combined maximum is $12,000.
