Before you think about prices or plumbing, run through the actual eligibility rules. These come straight from the program pages — if you clear this list, you're in good shape for pre-approval.
City of Mississauga — Basement Flooding Prevention (up to $7,500)
- Property type: detached, semi-detached, duplex or townhouse, located in Mississauga.
- Ownership: you're the registered individual owner. Corporate-owned properties don't qualify.
- Clean slate with the City: no outstanding property taxes, fees or charges.
- The 10-year rule: no sump pump rebate received on the property in the last 10 years.
- Timing: nothing installed yet — pre-approval must come first, and the work must be completed within 6 months of it.
City of Mississauga — Flood Resilience (up to $3,000)
- Everything above, plus proof your home flooded in an intense rainfall event on or after July 8, 2013.
- Acceptable proof: an insurance claim, correspondence with 311 / your Councillor / the City, cleanup or repair invoices, or photos with date metadata.
- Funding is limited — the City can pause or cancel this program at any time, so if you have the proof, don't sit on it.
Region of Peel — Sanitary Backwater Valve (up to $1,500)
- Residential single, semi, or townhome in Mississauga, Brampton or Caledon.
- Multi-unit dwellings and basement apartments sharing a sewer lateral are excluded.
- Building permit issued before installation, with a passed inspection after.
- One rebate per residence every 10 years.
Renting? Read this.
The rebates go to registered property owners, so tenants can't apply — but landlords can, and the pitch writes itself: the upgrade protects their property and their tenant's belongings for a fraction of its cost after rebates. Send your landlord this page.
