Official Government Rebate Programs — More Info
When a major storm hits Mississauga, the city's sewer system can overflow — and that water has nowhere to go but into your basement. This isn't a rare event. It happens every few years, and it's getting worse.

Sits on your sewer line and stays open under normal conditions. The moment the city's sewer pressure reverses during a storm, the valve snaps shut — physically blocking sewage from entering your home.

Installed in a pit beneath your basement floor, it automatically collects groundwater that builds up around your foundation during heavy rain and pumps it safely away before it can rise into your home.

A single basement flood costs $20,000–$50,000+ to remediate — mould removal, flooring, drywall, electrical. Prevention costs a fraction of that, and the government pays for most of it.

Most standard home insurance policies exclude sewer backup and overland flooding unless you have a specific rider — and even then, payouts are capped and claims raise your premiums.

The City of Mississauga and Region of Peel have money set aside right now for exactly this. Proper Plumbing GTA handles every step — assessment, permits, installation, and rebate submission.
Pre-approvals, building permits, multiple programs, contractor coordination. Most homeowners start the process and give up. We handle every document, from first assessment to final rebate submission.
If you own a detached, semi-detached, duplex, or townhouse in Mississauga, you almost certainly qualify for $7,500–$9,000 in rebates. No flood history required.
The City of Mississauga and Region of Peel budget this money every year for basement flooding prevention. It's allocated for homeowners like you. It doesn't carry forward if you don't claim it.

Each service targets a different way water enters your basement — here's what we install and why.
City of Mississauga
A submersible pump installed beneath your basement floor. It collects groundwater that builds up around your foundation during rain and pumps it safely away from your home — automatically, every time it storms.
City of Mississauga
A one-way mechanical valve on your stormwater lateral — the pipe connecting your foundation drain to the city storm sewer. Water flows out freely under normal conditions. During a sewer backup, the valve closes automatically to block stormwater from entering your home.
Region of Peel
Installed on your main sanitary sewer line — the pipe carrying waste from toilets, sinks, and showers. If the municipal sewer overloads during heavy rain, this valve automatically closes to prevent raw sewage from backing up into your basement.
City of Mississauga
Your foundation drain used to connect directly to the city's storm sewer. During heavy rain, that's a two-way pipe — city water pushes back into your home. Drain capping permanently seals that connection. Your sump pump takes over.
City of Mississauga
In older Mississauga homes, roof downspouts drain underground into the foundation drain system. During heavy rain this overloads the sewer and pushes water back toward your home. Disconnection redirects that water to your lawn — away from your foundation.
Flood History Required
You may also qualify for the Flood Resilience Rebate — an additional program on top of the standard protection package.
If your home has flooded since July 8, 2013, this program covers 50% of rebuilding your basement with flood-resistant materials — so that if it happens again, the damage is minimal and repairs are fast.
"I had no idea this money existed. The sump pump and drain capping were done in three days. I was honestly shocked at how little I ended up paying — the rebates covered almost everything. I wish I had done this years ago."
