If you remember one thing about Mississauga's flood rebates, make it this: since February 2025, the City must approve your project before anything is installed. Work done first — even perfect work by a licensed plumber — gets $0. There is no appeal, no exception, no retroactive claim.
Why the City added this rule
Before 2025, homeowners installed equipment, then discovered they didn't qualify — wrong property type, unpaid taxes, a rebate already claimed on the home within 10 years. Pre-approval moves the eligibility check to the front, so nobody spends money on a claim that was doomed from the start. Annoying? Slightly. But it also means once you're pre-approved, your rebate is about paperwork discipline, not luck.
What a pre-approval application needs
- An itemized contractor quote — each measure priced separately, so the City can apply its per-item caps.
- A diagram of the proposed work — where the sump pit goes, how the discharge runs, where valves sit in the line. This must come from your contractor; it's the piece homeowners can't produce on their own.
- Permit applications where the work requires them.
- Proof of eligibility — registered individual owner, eligible property type (detached, semi, duplex or townhouse in Mississauga), no outstanding City taxes or fees, no sump pump rebate on the property in the last 10 years.
The 6-month completion window
Pre-approval isn't open-ended: you must finish the work and request final approval within 6 months. Miss the window and you're back to square one — in a program the City can change or pause at any time. This is why we schedule installation as part of the pre-approval package, not after it.
