How Mississauga Homeowners Stack Three Rebates Up to $12,000

Mississauga is unusual in that three separate flood prevention programmes can apply to the same property, run by two different levels of government. They stack. Most homeowners claim one and never find out about the rest.

1. City of Mississauga Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate — up to $7,500

The main programme, and the one that pays for the protection itself. Each item carries its own cap:

• Sump pump — up to $6,000
• Storm backwater valve — up to $1,500
• Drain capping — up to $1,000
• Downspout disconnection — $125 each, up to four
• CCTV drain inspection and the consultation visit
• Building permits

Together these reach the $7,500 programme maximum. Pre-approval is required — the City must approve your application before any work starts, and work begun beforehand is not eligible.

2. Region of Peel Sanitary Backwater Valve Rebate — up to $1,500

A different pipe and a different funder. The storm valve above sits on your stormwater lateral; this one goes on the sanitary sewer line that carries waste from toilets and drains. Peel covers 60% of the invoice including tax, to a maximum of $1,500, so your share typically lands around $1,000.

A permit is required before installation, and it is one rebate per home per ten years. Both valves can be installed on the same visit.

3. Mississauga Flood Resilience Rebate — up to $3,000

This one is only for homes that have already flooded, on or after 8 July 2013, and you will need proof: an insurance claim, a 311 record, or timestamped photos.

It covers 50% of eligible costs for rebuilding in materials that survive the next flood — waterproof flooring and moisture-resistant wall panels inside, foundation membranes, weeping tile repair and grading outside.

The order that matters

Pre-approval first, always. The single most expensive mistake in Mississauga is hiring a plumber, getting the work done, and then discovering the City will not reimburse work that started before approval. That rule has no exceptions and no appeal.

What it actually costs you

With the prevention rebate covering the protection work at 100% up to its caps, many Mississauga homeowners pay very little out of pocket for the core job. The Peel valve leaves roughly $1,000. Flood Resilience, if you qualify, halves a rebuild bill.
