How Much Does a Sump Pump Cost in Ontario? (2026 Prices)

The pump itself is rarely the expensive bit. What moves the number is whether your basement already has a pit, and how far the discharge has to travel.

Rough ranges in 2026

• Replacing a pump in an existing pit: $600 to $1,400
• New pit cut into an existing slab, with pump: $2,500 to $4,500
• Weeping tile disconnection plus new pit and pump: $3,500 to $6,500
• Adding a battery backup system: $900 to $2,000
• Mainline backwater valve, installed: $2,500 to $4,500

These are typical installed ranges including permit and labour. Your quote depends on access, slab thickness, how far the discharge line runs and what the camera finds.

What drives the cost

Cutting the pit. Breaking concrete, excavating, setting the liner and making good is most of the labour on a first-time install.

Discharge routing. The water has to exit well clear of the foundation and not somewhere it runs straight back. A long run, or one that has to get around a finished space, adds time.

Whether the weeping tile has to be re-routed. If it currently goes to the sewer, disconnecting and redirecting it into the new pit is the bulk of the job — and the part the rebates are aimed at.

Permit and inspection. Required, and in several programmes an eligible cost.

What you might actually pay after a rebate

This is where Ontario homeowners do well:

• Halton: 100% of materials and labour to $6,500 — most jobs land inside that, so nothing out of pocket
• Niagara Falls: 100% to $4,000 for the disconnection and pump together
• St. Catharines: 90% to $5,000 — a $5,000 job leaves you about $500
• Mississauga: sump pump covered up to $6,000 inside a $7,500 cap

Where to be careful on price

A quote well below these ranges usually means no permit, no inspection, or a pump undersized for the job. In every rebate programme here, no permit means no reimbursement — so the cheap quote often costs several thousand more once the rebate is lost.

Ask any contractor for the permit line on the quote. If it is not there, ask why.
